Dimensions, Condition and Tolerances

Specify thickness × width × length and the number of plates or pieces. For profiles, provide a dimensioned drawing with units, revision and finished-part tolerances, and say whether sizes are finished dimensions or include a machining allowance.

ASTM B424 sets the permitted variations in thickness, width, length and flatness. Attach your own limits where they are tighter, and state the surface finish and edge condition you need.

Alloy 825 plates or alloy 825 (USN N08825) is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper and titanium. It became advanced to provide superb corrosion resistance in each oxidizing and decreasing environments. The alloy is immune to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and pitting. The addition of titanium stabilizes alloy 825 in opposition to sensitization in the as-welded situation making the alloy immune to inter-granular assault after publicity to temperatures in a range that could sensitize un-stabilized stainless steels. The fabrication of alloy 825 is typical of nickel-base alloys, with cloth being easily formable and weld-able through a spread of techniques.

Grade and claims: The correct designation is UNS N08825 (written “USN N08825” above). Alloy 825 was developed for good corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing environments. It has high resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking and resistance to intergranular attack after welding, but “immune” overstates it: its pitting and crevice resistance is moderate, and higher-molybdenum alloys such as Alloy 625 are used where chloride pitting is severe.

Why Select Alloy 825 Plates?

Alloy 825 is chosen for sulfuric and phosphoric acid, pickling and sour or seawater-cooled equipment where stainless steels crack or corrode too fast. Its nickel content resists chloride stress corrosion cracking, molybdenum and copper resist reducing acids, chromium resists oxidizing media and titanium stabilization protects welds. Compare it with the related grades below for your process.

Correction – do not use four of these rows for Alloy 825: “Molybdenum 8.0–10.0”, “Niobium (plus Tantalum) 3.15–4.15”, “Titanium 0.40” and “Carbon 0.10” are Alloy 625 values. For Alloy 825 the correct limits are molybdenum 2.5–3.5%, titanium 0.6–1.2% and carbon 0.05% maximum, as in the other rows; niobium is not specified. The caption says “Typical Values”, but the entries are specification limits.

Cutting, Fabrication and Welding

Champak Industries describes full and part plate/profile supply and a plasma-cutting service. Send drawings, piece quantities, tolerances, edge finish and machining allowances for your Alloy 825 requirement.

Forming and machining

Alloy 825 forms like austenitic stainless steel but work-hardens, so use rigid set-ups, sharp tools and positive feeds. It is not hardened by heat treatment; follow the producer’s guidance for any annealing after heavy forming.

Welding

Weld with a qualified procedure. Over-alloyed fillers such as ERNiCrMo-3 are commonly used so the weld resists corrosion at least as well as the plate. Clean joints and control heat input.

Testing, Certificates and Heat Traceability

Specify the inspection-document type and heat identification when ordering. Request chemistry, mechanical results, dimensions and condition to the governing specification, so the certificate confirms the correct Alloy 825 limits. For cut pieces, state how identification must be carried from the parent plate to each piece.

RequirementWhat to identify in the order
Inspection documentCertificate type (for example EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2) showing heat number, chemistry, mechanical results and condition
Heat traceabilityHeat marking on each plate and how it is transferred to cut pieces
Corrosion and sour-service testsIntergranular corrosion test or ISO 15156-3 / NACE MR0175 compliance, with method and acceptance criteria, if required
PMI and inspectionPositive material identification, dimensional checks and any buyer or third-party witness

A management-system certificate is separate from a material inspection certificate or project approval. See the company’s Quality Policy for its published policy.

What Determines the Alloy 825 Plate Quotation?

Nickel, molybdenum and copper prices, thickness, plate size, quantity, specification, required brand or source, cutting, testing and documentation all affect the quotation. Include the destination and packing requirements, and say whether pricing is needed per kilogram, per plate or per finished piece.

Packing, Dispatch and Export Requirements

Give the delivery address, required date and unloading constraints. Specify protective packing that keeps the plate away from carbon-steel contamination, piece identification and handling needs. For export orders, include the destination port, delivery terms and document list.

Alloy 825 Plates: Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is the UNS number for Alloy 825?

Alloy 825 is UNS N08825, also identified as W.Nr. 2.4858. It is a titanium-stabilized nickel-iron-chromium alloy with molybdenum and copper.

02

Is Alloy 825 the same as Incoloy 825?

Incoloy® 825 is Special Metals’ trade name for UNS N08825. Generic Alloy 825 plate meets the same UNS grade but is not automatically that brand, so name the brand if your project requires it.

03

Which specification should I state for Alloy 825 plate?

State ASTM B424 or ASME SB424 with UNS N08825 and the required edition.

04

Which thicknesses are listed?

The published range is 3/16" to 2" (4.8mm to 50.8mm), with 11 listed thicknesses. Send the width, length and quantity you need with the thickness.

05

How much molybdenum does Alloy 825 contain?

2.5–3.5% under ASTM B424. The 8.0–10.0% figure that also appears in the original table belongs to Alloy 625.

06

When should I choose Alloy 825 over Alloy 625?

Alloy 825 is often chosen for sulfuric and phosphoric acid and pickling service at lower cost. Alloy 625 is preferred where chloride pitting is severe or higher strength is needed.

07

Can Alloy 825 plate be welded?

Yes. Titanium stabilization protects the heat-affected zone, and over-alloyed fillers such as ERNiCrMo-3 are commonly used with a qualified procedure.

08

Are the properties on this page test results for the plate supplied?

No. They are reference values, and some rows are corrected in the notes. Request the heat-specific inspection certificate for the plate supplied.

09

Can Alloy 825 plate be cut to size?

Yes. Send a drawing or the sizes, quantity, tolerances and edge requirements, and state how heat identification must be carried onto each piece.

10

How do I get a price and delivery date?

Send the specification, sizes, quantity, cutting, inspection requirements, destination and required date through the enquiry form below, by WhatsApp or by phone.
