Range note: SAIL's high-tensile structural plate brand is spelled SAILMA; “SALIMA” on this page and its product pages refers to the same grades. SAILHARD, TISCRAL, JISCRAL, LAS07, 200BHN and 250BHN are selected by hardness for wear service rather than by yield strength — see also our Abrasion Resistant Plates page.
Champak Industries has large stocks of high tensile steel, sometimes known as High Strength steel, in a variety of grades. We focus on steel plates and specifically high tensile steel plates greater than 40 mm thick. For many customers a steel plate with a yield strength of 355 MPa or higher is considered to be high tensile steel and we have many tens of thousands of tones of these plates in stock. For the S355 and S460 MPa level we have plates to EN10025-2, EN10025-3, and EN10025-4. You can find more details on these under the structural steel section. For steels with a higher tensile strength to EN10025-6 we carry S690QL, S690QL1, S890QL, S960QL and the ultra-high tensile steel S1100QL. These steel plates are all from Dillinger Hutte, the world's leading heavy plate mill and are certified to EN10204 3.2. We don't stock any high tensile steel plates to ASTM standards though many of our plates will be suitable as an equivalent.
Confirm with your quotation: Stock, mill of origin and certificate type vary by grade and thickness. The product pages linked below include plate from several mills — for example WELDOX, NAXTRA, SUPRALSIM, JFE and SAIL — not only Dillinger Hütte, and EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certificates can be supplied as ordered. S1100QL is outside EN 10025-6, which covers grades up to S960; it is supplied to the mill's own specification. This website has no separate structural steel section; ask for S355 and S460 grades in your enquiry. An ASTM grade is a substitute only when your design specification approves it.

How to Select the Right High Tensile Plate
- Yield strength
- Impact temperature
- Thickness
- Forming
- Welding
Start with the yield strength your design calculation needs at the plate thickness you will use, because minimum yield falls in thicker ranges. Choose the impact quality from the lowest service temperature: QL for −40 °C or QL1 for −60 °C. For cold-formed parts, EN 10149-2 grades and the mill's bend-radius tables decide what can be formed. Higher strength generally tightens preheat, heat-input and consumable requirements. This guidance supports purchasing; the designer's approved grade and specification decide suitability.
Standards and Grade Identifiers
| Standard | Scope | Grades in this range |
|---|---|---|
| EN 10025-6 | Flat products of high yield strength structural steels in the quenched and tempered condition | S690QL (1.8928), S690QL1 (1.8988), S890QL, S960QL |
| EN 10137-2 | Earlier standard for quenched and tempered high-yield plate, replaced by EN 10025-6 | Cited on our SUPRALSIM 690 page |
| EN 10149-2 | Hot-rolled flat products of high yield strength steels for cold forming, thermomechanically rolled | S500MC, S700MC |
| EN 10025-2 / -3 / -4 | Non-alloy, normalized and thermomechanical structural steels | S355 and S460 levels, on request |
| EN 10204 | Types of inspection documents | 3.1 or 3.2 certificates |
In an EN 10025-6 designation, S means structural steel, the number is the minimum yield strength in MPa for the lowest thickness range, Q means quenched and tempered, and L or L1 sets the impact test temperature. Order by the EN grade, or by a mill brand together with the EN grade it meets.
Plate Sizes, Thickness Ranges and Delivery Condition
- Thicknessup to 255 mm
- Widthup to 3350 mm
- Lengthup to 14630 mm
These figures come from our product pages: DILLIMAX 690T lists 6–255 mm for the basic and tough grades, and WELDOX 700E lists 4–160 mm in widths up to 3350 mm and lengths up to 14630 mm. They describe mill size ranges, not the size of every plate in stock. Minimum yield strength falls in thicker ranges, so confirm the value for your thickness.
EN 10025-6 plates are supplied quenched and tempered, and EN 10149-2 plates thermomechanically rolled. For plate tolerances, state the EN 10029 thickness-tolerance class you require.
Applications and Service Requirements

These are material application examples. Final selection depends on the actual service conditions and design specification.
Cut-to-Size Plates and Profiles
High tensile plate can be cut to size and shape to your drawings through our cutting services, including plasma cutting. Send the grade, thickness, drawing, cut dimensions, quantity and tolerances. Tell us if pieces will be bent or welded, as quenched and tempered plate needs controlled heat input to keep its properties near the cut edge.
Testing, Material Documents and Traceability
State the certificate type and test scope with the RFQ. A mill test certificate for the plate and the company's quality-system certification are different documents.
| Requirement | What to identify in the order |
|---|---|
| Material certificate | EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, showing grade, chemistry, tensile and impact results and delivery condition |
| Impact test | Test temperature, specimen direction and minimum energy |
| Heat traceability | Heat or plate number on the plate and certificate; transfer to cut pieces where required |
| Ultrasonic and inspection | Ultrasonic test standard and class where specified; buyer or third-party inspection and report format |
Review our Quality Policy and include your project inspection requirements in the enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions About High Tensile Plates
01What does the High Tensile Plates range include?
The range covers EN 10025-6 S690QL-class plate and mill brands such as DILLIMAX 690T, WELDOX 700E, NAXTRA 70, SUPRALSIM 690, MAXIL 690 and JFE 780 LE; EN 10149-2 S500MC and S700MC; SAIL high-tensile grades; and wear grades such as SAILHARD and TISCRAL.
02What does S690QL mean?
S is structural steel, 690 is the minimum yield strength in MPa for the lowest thickness range, Q is quenched and tempered, and L means impact values are specified at −40 °C. S690QL1 has impact values at −60 °C.
03Are DILLIMAX 690T, WELDOX 700E and NAXTRA 70 the same as S690QL?
Our product pages list each of these brands as meeting S690QL to EN 10025-6. They differ between mills in thickness range, chemistry and properties, so name the brand, or state that any S690QL brand is acceptable.
04Does yield strength change with thickness?
Yes. Minimum yield strength falls in thicker ranges. For example, our WELDOX 700E page lists 700 MPa up to 53 mm and 650 MPa above that. Check the value for your thickness before ordering.
05When should I choose S700MC instead of S690QL?
S700MC to EN 10149-2 is thermomechanically rolled for cold forming, so it suits formed chassis, frames and sections. S690QL is quenched and tempered structural plate, available in much greater thicknesses.
06What plate sizes are available?
Our DILLIMAX 690T page lists 6–255 mm thick, and our WELDOX 700E page lists widths up to 3350 mm and lengths up to 14630 mm. Send the exact grade and dimensions to confirm availability.
07Can high tensile plate be cut and welded?
Yes. Plates can be cut to size and shape to your drawings. Quenched and tempered plate needs controlled heat input, preheat and matching consumables, so follow the mill's welding recommendations for your grade and thickness.
08Are SAILHARD and TISCRAL high tensile grades?
They are selected by hardness for wear service, such as liners, conveyors and dumper bodies, rather than by yield strength. For harder wear plate, see our Abrasion Resistant Plates range.
09Which certificates and tests should my RFQ request?
Request an EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certificate showing chemistry, tensile and impact results, plus heat traceability. Add any ultrasonic test, impact temperature or third-party inspection your specification calls for.
10How do I obtain a price and delivery offer?
Send the standard and grade or brand, acceptable alternatives, impact requirement, dimensions, quantity, cutting needs, documents, destination and required date. Include export packing and delivery terms when relevant.
