High Strength JFE 780 LE Plates is low-alloyed high-strength steel plate manufactured by TMCP, or quenched and tempered. Because Champak offers high strength, it results in a significant reduction in the weight of welded structures. Good WeldabilityJFE 780 LE Plates of which chemical composition is controlled by specific procedure offers low carbon equivalent and excellent weldability.
Source of the text: This page reproduces JFE Steel’s HITEN catalogue, with the mill’s name replaced by “Champak” in places. Statements such as “because Champak offers high strength” describe the JFE-HITEN plate made by JFE. Words run together in the original (“Good WeldabilityJFE…”) are headings: Good Weldability, Excellent Notch Toughness, Excellent Uniformity and Clean Surface, Good Workability and Wide Range of Sizes.
Champak Industries also supplies welding materials suitable for JFE-HITEN effectively, and thereby enjoys acceptances by customers. Excellent Notch Toughness JFE 780 LE Plates offers high notch toughness because it is produced by closely controlling the chemical composition and heat treatment conditions. Application of Champak Industries ensures construction of structures providing high reliability against brittle fracture. Excellent Uniformity and Clean Surface Rolled on the most modern plate mill under rigid quality control, JFE 780 LE Plates has excellent uniformity in properties, flatness and surface finish. In addition, slab surfaces are carefully scarfed, powerful water jets are used during rolling, and nonoxidizing atmosphere furnaces are used for heat treatment. Consequently, JFE 780 LE Plates has smooth and clean surfaces. Good Workability Because JFE 780 LE Plates features good ductility, it offers not only good formability, but also good machinability, making it easy to drill and cut. Wide Range of Sizes JFE Plates are available in widths of up to 5,350mm, and in lengths of up to 27,000mm, and then contributes to saving expenses.
JFE 780 LE Plates: Purchasing Specification
| Requirement | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Grade and standard | EN 10025-6 grade (S690Q, S690QL or S690QL1) or the named brand; state the edition and whether equivalent brands are acceptable. |
| Impact requirement | Charpy temperature and energy: “L” grades are tested at −40 °C and “L1” grades at −60 °C. |
| Thickness | Yield and tensile strength fall as thickness rises, so give the thickness range of your plates. |
| Welding | Preheat and consumables depend on carbon equivalent and thickness; ask for the mill’s welding recommendations. |
| Documents | EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 mill certificate, with ultrasonic testing where specified. |

Applications for JFE 780 LE Plates

Typical uses include cranes, lifting equipment, heavy transport, machine building and welded steel structures. Tell us the load, temperature and service conditions so the right grade and thickness can be quoted.
Cutting, Fabrication and Welding
Champak Industries describes full and part plate/profile supply and a plasma-cutting service. Send drawings, quantities, tolerances and edge preparation for your parts. High-strength plate needs controlled preheat, interpass temperature and heat input when welding, and forming limits depend on the grade and thickness; follow the mill’s recommendations.
Testing, Inspection Documents and Traceability
| Requirement | What to identify in the order |
|---|---|
| Mill test certificate | EN 10204 3.1 showing brand and grade, heat number, chemistry and mechanical properties |
| Impact test | Charpy test temperature and minimum energy, if required |
| Ultrasonic test | Standard and acceptance class, if required |
| Traceability | Heat and plate number transferred to cut pieces |

JFE 780 LE Plates: Frequently Asked Questions
01What is JFE 780 LE Plates?
JFE 780 LE is JFE’s HITEN 780LE plate: a 780 N/mm² class low-alloy high-strength steel, made by TMCP or quenching and tempering, with 685 MPa minimum yield and toughness guaranteed at −40 °C in thicknesses of 5–160 mm.
02What is JFE-HITEN 780LE?
It is a 780 N/mm² class high-strength plate from JFE Steel with high weldability and excellent toughness at −40 °C, listed in thicknesses of 5–160 mm (and 160.1–203.2 mm at 610 MPa yield).
03Is JFE 780 LE the same as S690QL?
No. It is a Japanese JFE grade of 685 MPa minimum yield and 780–930 MPa tensile strength. It is used as a comparable alternative to S690QL where the design allows it.
04What sizes are listed?
Widths up to 5,350 mm and lengths up to 27,000 mm are listed, with separate availability tables for plate with and without heat treatment.
05Can JFE 780 LE be welded?
Yes, with low-hydrogen consumables and the preheat and interpass temperatures the mill gives for the grade and combined thickness.
06Which certificate should I request?
An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing the brand and grade, heat number, chemistry and mechanical properties, plus impact results where you specify a test temperature.
07Can another brand replace JFE 780 LE?
Brands of the same class are comparable, not identical. Chemistry, toughness, thickness range and processing advice differ by mill, so confirm any substitution with your engineer.
08Can JFE 780 LE plate be cut to size?
Yes. Champak Industries lists full and part plate and profile supply and a plasma-cutting service; send drawings, quantities and tolerances with your enquiry.
09Which sizes are available?
Availability depends on the grade, mill and thickness; send the thickness, width and length you need and sizes will be confirmed at quotation.
10How do I get a price and delivery date?
Send the grade, thickness, size or cutting drawing, quantity, destination and required date through the enquiry form below, by WhatsApp or by phone.
