5154 Aluminium Plates

5154 aluminium-magnesium alloy of moderate strength and excellent formability

5154 is a non-heat-treatable aluminium-magnesium alloy (3.1–3.9% Mg) of moderate strength with excellent formability and corrosion resistance, used regularly as wire and increasingly for cold-heading rivets. It is used for tanks, pressure vessels, marine and transport structures, tooling, aerospace components and general fabrication. For a quotation, send the alloy and temper, thickness, plate size or cutting drawing, quantity and the delivery destination.

5154 Aluminium Plates

Champak industries stock 5154 Aluminium Plates, which is Aluminium Alloy 5154 primary constituent is magnesium which gives this non heat treatable alloy its moderate strength. Alloy 5154 combines its strength with excellent formability and corrosion resistance and is regularly used in wire form but is now becoming popular for use with cold heading applications, specifically in solid, semi-tubular and tubular rivets. Alloy 5154 is an all-purpose alloy that meets a broad range of needs.

Reading the text: “Primary constituent is magnesium” means magnesium is the main alloying element. The applications named are wire and cold-heading products, especially solid, semi-tubular and tubular rivets.

5154 Aluminium Plates: Purchasing Specification

DimensionsThickness × width × length in mm or inches; number of plates or total weight.
CuttingSawing or waterjet cutting to your drawing; give tolerances and edge finish.
WeldingWeldability depends on the alloy: the 5xxx and 6xxx alloys weld readily, while high-strength 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are generally not arc-welded. State the process.

How the Eighteen Aluminium Alloys Differ

The eighteen pages cover aluminium alloys from several families. The 1xxx, 3xxx and 5xxx alloys are non-heat-treatable and gain strength by cold work, while the 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx alloys are heat-treatable. The 5xxx magnesium alloys are the usual marine and welded-structure choice; the 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are the high-strength aerospace alloys.

Applications for 5154 Aluminium Plates

Typical uses include tanks, pressure vessels, marine and transport structures, tooling, aerospace components and general fabrication. Tell us the load, temperature and service conditions so the right grade and thickness can be quoted.

Cutting, Fabrication and Welding

Champak Industries describes full and part plate/profile supply and a plasma-cutting service. Send drawings, quantities, tolerances and edge preparation for your parts. Aluminium plate can be sawn, waterjet cut or machined to your drawing. Weldability depends on the alloy: the 5xxx and 6xxx alloys weld readily with a suitable filler, while the high-strength 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are generally not arc-welded. Send the alloy, temper and drawing with your enquiry.

5154 Aluminium Plates: Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is 5154 Aluminium Plates?

5154 is a non-heat-treatable aluminium-magnesium alloy (3.1–3.9% Mg) of moderate strength with excellent formability and corrosion resistance, used regularly as wire and increasingly for cold-heading rivets.

02

What is 5154 aluminium?

A non-heat-treatable aluminium-magnesium alloy of moderate strength, combining strength with excellent formability and corrosion resistance.

03

Which mechanical values does the page list?

For drawn tube under 10 mm wall: temper O with 215–260 N/mm² tensile and 85 N/mm² yield, and temper H4 with 245 N/mm² minimum tensile and 200 N/mm² yield.

04

Which chemistry variants are shown?

The USA 5154 and the European 5154A lines; for example 5154A allows 0.5% silicon and iron against 0.25% and 0.40% for the USA alloy.

05

Can 5154 be welded?

It depends on the alloy and temper. The 5xxx and 6xxx alloys weld readily with a suitable filler; high-strength 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are generally not arc-welded. Ask for welding advice for your alloy.

06

Which certificate should I request?

An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing the alloy and temper, lot number, chemistry and mechanical properties.

07

Can another alloy replace 5154?

Alloys of the same family are comparable, not identical. Strength, corrosion resistance, weldability and formability differ, so confirm any substitution with your engineer.

08

Can 5154 plate be cut to size?

Yes. Plate can be sawn or waterjet cut to your drawing; send the drawing, quantities and tolerances with your enquiry.

09

Which sizes are available?

Availability depends on the alloy, temper and thickness; send the thickness, width and length you need and sizes will be confirmed at quotation.

10

How do I get a price and delivery date?

Send the alloy and temper, thickness, size or cutting drawing, quantity, destination and required date through the enquiry form below, by WhatsApp or by phone.
