7075 Aluminium Plates

7075-T651 very high-strength aluminium-zinc plate for airframes

7075 is an aluminium-zinc alloy, precipitation hardened to very high strength, used for airframe structures and other highly stressed components and supplied as T651 plate. It is used for tanks, pressure vessels, marine and transport structures, tooling, aerospace components and general fabrication. For a quotation, send the alloy and temper, thickness, plate size or cutting drawing, quantity and the delivery destination.

7075 Aluminium Plates

Champak industries has stock of 7075 aluminiumplates these aluminum plate is made of one of the strongest of the aluminum alloys. Its use parallels that of 2024, with 7075 selected when higher mechanical properties are desired. 7075 aluminum is an aluminum-zinc alloy with 1%-8% zinc in addition to small amounts of magnesium and small quantities of copper and chromium. This alloy is precipitation hardened to very high strength levels. Alloy 7075 is used in airframe structures and other highly stressed components.

Zinc range: Alloy 7075 contains about 5.1–6.1% zinc, with about 2.1–2.9% magnesium and 1.2–2.0% copper. “1%–8% zinc” describes the 7xxx family broadly, not this alloy. Ask for the chemistry on the certificate.

7075-T651 Aluminum Plate

Our 7075 plate has T651 temper, indicating it has been solution heat treated followed by a minimal stretching to reduce stresses in the material. The material was then artificially aged to allow the alloying elements to precipitate out of the material, to give immediate maximum strength.

Reading the text: “Immediate maximum strength” means maximum strength after ageing.

7075 Aluminium Plates: Purchasing Specification

RequirementWhat to specify
Alloy and temperState both, for example 5083-H116 or 6061-T651; properties depend on the temper.
StandardASTM B209 / ASME SB209 for plate and sheet, or EN 485 / EN 573; ASTM B928 for marine-service plate in the high-magnesium alloys, as the pages cite.
DimensionsThickness × width × length in mm or inches; number of plates or total weight.
CuttingSawing or waterjet cutting to your drawing; give tolerances and edge finish.
WeldingWeldability depends on the alloy: the 5xxx and 6xxx alloys weld readily, while high-strength 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are generally not arc-welded. State the process.
DocumentsMill test certificate (EN 10204 3.1) with chemistry, temper and mechanical properties.

How the Eighteen Aluminium Alloys Differ

The eighteen pages cover aluminium alloys from several families. The 1xxx, 3xxx and 5xxx alloys are non-heat-treatable and gain strength by cold work, while the 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx alloys are heat-treatable. The 5xxx magnesium alloys are the usual marine and welded-structure choice; the 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are the high-strength aerospace alloys.

Applications for 7075 Aluminium Plates

Typical uses include tanks, pressure vessels, marine and transport structures, tooling, aerospace components and general fabrication. Tell us the load, temperature and service conditions so the right grade and thickness can be quoted.

Cutting, Fabrication and Welding

Champak Industries describes full and part plate/profile supply and a plasma-cutting service. Send drawings, quantities, tolerances and edge preparation for your parts. Aluminium plate can be sawn, waterjet cut or machined to your drawing. Weldability depends on the alloy: the 5xxx and 6xxx alloys weld readily with a suitable filler, while the high-strength 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are generally not arc-welded. Send the alloy, temper and drawing with your enquiry.

7075 Aluminium Plates: Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is 7075 Aluminium Plates?

7075 is an aluminium-zinc alloy, precipitation hardened to very high strength, used for airframe structures and other highly stressed components and supplied as T651 plate.

02

What is 7075 aluminium?

An aluminium-zinc alloy precipitation hardened to very high strength levels; the page says its use parallels 2024, with 7075 chosen when higher mechanical properties are needed.

03

What does T651 mean?

The plate is solution heat treated, stretched slightly to relieve stress and then artificially aged, as the page describes.

04

Does the page give chemistry and strength tables?

No. Ask for the certificate with chemistry and mechanical properties for the thickness and temper you need.

05

Can 7075 be welded?

It depends on the alloy and temper. The 5xxx and 6xxx alloys weld readily with a suitable filler; high-strength 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are generally not arc-welded. Ask for welding advice for your alloy.

06

Which certificate should I request?

An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing the alloy and temper, lot number, chemistry and mechanical properties.

07

Can another alloy replace 7075?

Alloys of the same family are comparable, not identical. Strength, corrosion resistance, weldability and formability differ, so confirm any substitution with your engineer.

08

Can 7075 plate be cut to size?

Yes. Plate can be sawn or waterjet cut to your drawing; send the drawing, quantities and tolerances with your enquiry.

09

Which sizes are available?

Availability depends on the alloy, temper and thickness; send the thickness, width and length you need and sizes will be confirmed at quotation.

10

How do I get a price and delivery date?

Send the alloy and temper, thickness, size or cutting drawing, quantity, destination and required date through the enquiry form below, by WhatsApp or by phone.
