HB 400 Plates

400 HBW class wear-resistant steel plate for abrasive service

HB 400 Plates is wear-resistant steel plate in the 400 Brinell hardness class, ordered by hardness class, with the mill named on the certificate. It is used for penstocks, large earthmoving machines, conveyors, chutes, screens and dump trucks. For a quotation, send the thickness, plate size or cutting drawing, quantity, any impact-test requirement and the delivery destination.

HB 400 Plates

Champak Industries' is a specialist supplier and exporter of thick 400 HB and 500 HB wear resistant steel plates. We have Dillidur 400 and Dillidur 500 abrasion resistant plates in stock with a focus on heavier plates between 50mm to 150mm.

We understand customers whose requirement for wear resistant steel plate is extreme and who cannot use thinner abrasion resistant plates. Typical usages for our heavy 400HB plates are for penstock construction in the hydroelectric and mining industries.

Thick plates are also used for very large earth moving and excavating machines whose capacity to move huge tonnages requires a corresponding increase in the structural strength of the steel and its thickness.

Finally customers use the thinner wear resistant plates for the entire range of slide conveyors, chutes, silos, deflectors, screen plates, cutting edges, dump trucks and loading shovels that are required by the mining and construction industries.

Dillidur text: This page describes Dillidur plate from Dillinger. The comparison of European with Chinese and Indian mills is the original text’s opinion, so compare the datasheets of the brands you are offered. “SELECTIO” means selection, and “Widths 200 mm” should most likely read 2000 mm. In the table, “355 L” appears as DILLIDUR 325 L on the Dillidur pages.

WHO BUYS WEAR RESISTANT STEEL PLATE FROM US?

We have customers those are typically engineering, procurement and construction companies who are undertaking large projects to deliver either mining or hydro-electric infrastructure. Typically the project owner is a western multinational or an organisation that is looking to reduce its long term operational costs by improved availability and reduced maintenance costs. Abrasion resistant plates purchased from European steel mills typically have better properties than those rolled by Chinese or Indian mills and the additional performance in durability and reduced maintenance more than offsets the higher steel price and transport costs.

The use of Dillidur wear resistant steel is ideal for these customers as they are able to rely on Dillinger's 325 years of experience in steel making in producing steels that can deliver performance over the long term in very tough environments. This is further supported by the experience of many of the world leading manufacturers of construction machinery, conveyor systems and processing plants who have consistently bought Dillidur and helped the 400 HB and 500HB steels become even better over time.

THICK WEAR RESISTANT STEEL PLATE EX-STOCK

We are stocking thicker wear resistant plates up to 150 mm. We have a good selection of wear resistant steel plate across most common stock sizes. These are held in sufficient quantities to meet most common ex-stock requirements with no need for our customers to buy from multiple suppliers. We are also able to cut and profile abrasion resistant plates to meet customer's specific requirements.

ALTERNATIVES AND EQUIVALENTS

There are no standards for wear resistant steel plate – the focus is on the plate hardness – equivalent grades aren't appropriate. However there are a number of different terms used

WEAR RESISTANT STEEL GRADES AVAILABLE EX-STOCK

These abrasion resistant steel grades are usually available ex-stock. The thicknesses are for indication only but we will usually have thicker plates available in most grades

Choosing HB 400 Plates

HB 400 Plates is in the 400 HBW hardness class. Higher hardness generally lasts longer against sliding abrasion but is harder to bend, cut and weld; where parts also take heavy impact, a tougher, lower class can last longer.

ClassNominal hardnessTypical useForming and welding
400 (this page)About 400 HBWDumper bodies, chutes, hoppers, screensCold bending and welding with normal care
450About 450 HBWBuckets, liners and heavier wear partsLarger bending radii; preheat thicker sections
500About 500 HBWCutting edges, crusher and severe-abrasion linersLimited forming; strict cutting and welding procedures

Brands of the same class are comparable, not identical; confirm any substitution with the end user. See all brands on Wear Resistant Plates.

Applications for HB 400 Plates

Ore processing plant with conveyors and crushing equipment
Mining, quarrying and ore processing

Typical uses include penstocks, large earthmoving machines, conveyors, chutes, screens and dump trucks. Tell us the abrasive material, impact level and the life of the current part so the right class can be quoted.

Cutting, Fabrication and Welding

Champak Industries describes full and part plate/profile supply and a plasma-cutting service. Thermal cutting softens a narrow edge zone, and thick or hard plate may need preheat before cutting. Weld with low-hydrogen consumables and the mill’s preheat and interpass limits; do not heat the plate above the mill’s tempering limit. See AR Plates for bending and drilling guidance.

What Determines the Quotation?

Brand, hardness class, thickness, plate size, quantity, cutting, testing and packing all affect the quotation. Say whether pricing is needed per kilogram, per plate or per finished piece.

Packing, Dispatch and Export Requirements

Give the delivery address, required date and unloading constraints. For export orders, include the destination port, delivery terms and document list.

HB 400 Plates: Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is HB 400 Plates?

HB 400 Plates is wear-resistant steel plate in the 400 Brinell hardness class, ordered by hardness class, with the mill named on the certificate. It is used where abrasion shortens the life of ordinary structural steel.

02

What hardness does HB 400 Plates have?

This page gives 400 HB nominal. Hardness ranges can fall with thickness, so confirm the guaranteed range for your thickness on the mill’s datasheet.

03

Who makes this plate?

HB 400 is a hardness-class name used by several mills. The mill supplying your order is named on the mill test certificate.

04

Which thicknesses are listed?

This page lists Up to 150 mm. Availability for each size is confirmed at quotation.

05

Is HB 400 Plates the same as other 400 HBW wear plates?

Wear plates of the same hardness class are comparable, not identical. Chemistry, toughness and processing advice differ by mill, so confirm any substitution with the end user.

06

Can HB 400 Plates be bent?

Yes, by cold bending with larger punch radii and die openings than mild steel. Follow the mill’s minimum radius for the thickness and rolling direction.

07

Can HB 400 Plates be welded?

Yes, with low-hydrogen consumables and the preheat and interpass temperatures the mill gives for the grade and combined thickness.

08

What is HB 400 Plates used for?

Typical uses on this page include penstocks, large earthmoving machines, conveyors, chutes, screens and dump trucks.

09

Which certificate should I request?

An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing the brand and grade, heat number, chemistry and hardness, plus impact results where you specify a test temperature.

10

How do I get a price and delivery date?
