16mo3 Plates Steel is a pressure vessel steel that is used in applications with elevated temperatures in step with EN 10028–2. It has improved mechanical properties and better creep resistance allowing it for use as much as 500°c. This makes it best for an extensive variety of makes use of in which the plates will need to carry out at an excessive temperature continuously.
About the 500°C figure: EN 10028-2 gives 16Mo3 elevated-temperature proof strengths up to 500°C, and creep data for longer service. That is not a guaranteed maximum service temperature: the allowable temperature and stress come from your design code, load and design life.

Dimensions, Condition and Tolerances
Specify thickness × width × length and the number of plates or pieces. For profiles, provide a dimensioned drawing with units, revision and finished-part tolerances. EN 10028-2 sets lower minimum strength for thicker plate, so confirm the properties for your thickness range before ordering heavy plate.
16mo3 Steel Applications

Typical applications for 16mo3 include a wide variety of power plant device, business exhaust, venting and flare structures and waste recycling and incineration flora. It's also valuable for equipment where components are probably to stay warm for an extended period.
In energy plant life it's far frequently utilized in boilers, super heater tubes, collector and hot steam pipes, range tubes and conduits. 16mo3 is also used in diverse sorts of heat exchanger in both the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry
One example of ways 16mo3 plates is used is in the steel making manner itself. the blast furnace requires masses of hot air to transform the iron to steel and plenty of the output air is recovered and used to reheat the enter and reduce expenses. Historically the blast furnaces are product of general carbon pressure vessel steels; however 16mo3 offers a very good alternative as it is more immune to the large thermal stresses that it undergoes on an everyday foundation. The 16mo3 is also extra proof against the corrosion fashioned with the aid of nitrates as nitrogen oxide is eliminated from the steel mix. And this aggregate of residences can boom the lifestyles expectancy of essential plant equipment and decrease downtime.
For 16mo3 warmness resistance is supplied through the 0.32% molybdenum alloying detail.
Reading the applications: “Power plant device”, “business exhaust” and “incineration flora” mean power-plant equipment, industrial exhaust and incineration plant. Superheater tubes, headers and steam pipes are tube and pipe products made to tube standards such as EN 10216-2; this page covers plate. The blast-furnace example refers to hot-blast equipment; 16Mo3 has better elevated-temperature strength than carbon steel, but it is not a corrosion-resistant alloy, so corrosion allowance still applies. EN 10028-2 sets molybdenum at 0.25–0.35%; 0.32% is a typical value.

16mo3 Equivalents
It is equal to 15mo3 (DIN 17155 – Germany), 15d3 (NFA 36–205 – France), bs1501–243b (BS 1501 – UK) and ASTM 204 Gr .B. for customers requiring these grades we can provide 16mo3 from stock.
Comparable, not equal: 15Mo3 (DIN 17155), 15D3 (NF A 36-205) and BS 1501-243B are former national grades that EN 10028-2 replaced; ASTM A204 Grade B is a carbon-½Mo plate with different carbon and strength requirements. Supplying 16Mo3 against an order for one of these grades needs the purchaser’s approval, and the certificate will show EN 10028-2 16Mo3.
| Grade named in the original | Standard | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 15Mo3 | DIN 17155 (Germany) | Withdrawn; replaced by EN 10028-2 16Mo3 |
| 15D3 | NF A 36-205 (France) | Withdrawn; replaced by EN 10028-2 |

Reading this section: “ASTM 204 b” refers to the comparable ASTM A204 Grade B; the stock plate is 16Mo3. In the table, “220 – 275” is not a yield range: EN 10028-2 gives minimum yield strengths that fall from about 275 MPa for thin plate to lower values for thick plate, and tensile strength also falls above 60 mm. Check the minimums for your thickness on the inspection document.
Why Select 16MO3 Plates?
16Mo3 adds about 0.3% molybdenum to a carbon-manganese pressure-vessel steel. The molybdenum raises strength and creep resistance at elevated temperature compared with carbon steels such as P265GH, while keeping good weldability. Where temperatures or creep demands are higher, chromium-molybdenum grades such as 13CrMo4-5 and 10CrMo9-10 are used instead.
| Grade | Nominal alloying | Typical reason to choose |
|---|---|---|
| P265GH / P295GH | Carbon-manganese | Moderate temperatures at lowest cost |
| 16Mo3 | 0.3% Mo | Higher elevated-temperature strength than carbon steel |
| 13CrMo4-5 | 1% Cr – 0.5% Mo | Higher temperatures and better oxidation resistance |
| 10CrMo9-10 | 2.25% Cr – 1% Mo | Hotter service and hydrogen duty |
These grades are not interchangeable; use the grade approved in your design. P265GH and P295GH are shown for comparison and are not listed on this site.
