Steel Plates for Shipbuilding | Marine Grade Aluminium & Structural Plates
Shipbuilding is one of the most technically demanding engineering industries where materials must withstand continuous exposure to seawater, humidity, and heavy mechanical stress. Marine vessels require materials that combine corrosion resistance, structural strength, and long operational life.
Shipyards and marine engineering companies rely on marine-grade aluminium plates and structural steel plates to manufacture ship hulls, deck structures, offshore vessels, and marine transport systems. These materials must maintain structural integrity even under harsh environmental conditions.
Marine aluminium alloys and structural steel plates provide the strength and corrosion resistance required for modern shipbuilding projects.

Key Material Requirements for Shipbuilding
Shipbuilding materials must meet strict engineering standards to ensure safety and long-term durability.
Corrosion Resistance
Materials used in shipbuilding must resist seawater corrosion and marine atmospheric exposure.
Structural Strength
Ship hulls and marine structures must support heavy loads during operation.
Weldability
Ship construction involves extensive welding processes, so materials must offer reliable welding performance.
Durability
Marine structures require materials capable of maintaining strength for long service periods.
Common Plates Used in Shipbuilding
Shipbuilding industries use both marine aluminium alloys and structural steel plates depending on vessel design.
AA5083 H116 Marine Aluminium Plates
AA5083 aluminium plates are widely used in shipbuilding because of their excellent corrosion resistance and lightweight properties.
Typical uses include:
- Ship hull structures
- Passenger ferries
- Naval vessels
- Marine transport ships
Structural Steel Plates
Structural steels are used in larger marine structures where additional strength and load-bearing capacity are required.
Shipbuilding Applications
Steel and aluminium plates are used in multiple ship components.
| Application | Description |
|---|---|
| Ship Hull Construction | Primary vessel structure |
| Marine Deck Structures | Upper structural sections |
| Fuel Storage Tanks | Marine fuel systems |
| Offshore Vessels | Marine engineering equipment |
| Naval Defense Systems | Military marine structures |
